Kindergarteners in the afternoon class sang and played instruments to the book Ten in the Bed. They enjoyed singing and moving to “Jack and Jill.” Students in the morning class sang and did movement to the song, "Kitty Cat." They also played many instruments while rotating through xylophone, hand drum, rhythm stick, and claves stations to accompany "Kitty Cat."
First and Second graders had their full grade level rehearsals this week. They are ready and very excited for their concert, which is next week!
The third graders learned to play high and low tones on the African drums this week. They are working on playing question and answer patterns on the drums and beginning an ensemble piece.
The fourth graders learned low and high drum parts for a drumming ensemble piece this week. They put the two parts together and discovered that the piece has complementary rhythms.
The fifth graders began learning a new drumming piece this week. They have done a great job with a difficult hand pattern on the low drum part. This piece has a tricky gankogui rhythm that many students have played very successfully, too.
Monday is World Turtle Day!
This coincides well with the week of the 1st-2nd Grade Spring Sing,
which has some students who play turtles.
