Week of May 2

Congratulations to the third and fourth graders for all of their hard work on their concert last week!  They put on a great performance Wednesday evening at Elm Place.  The response to the new venue seems to be overwhelmingly positive, but I am always open to feedback and suggestions if you have any.

This past week, Kindergarteners in the morning class read So-me and the Dance and loved dancing to the song “Silly Dance Contest.”  They also learned that the Solfege pitch “la” sounds higher than “sol” and “mi. Students in the afternoon class sang about different ways to play their rhythm sticks.  They also sang a song called "Sounds on the Farm."

First and Second graders discussed what it means to be a good audience member in any performance setting.  They are also working very hard for their own performance, which is in just a couple of weeks.  They are working on developing a nice, light tone quality when they sing.

The Third and Fourth graders had their Spring Sing performance this week.  They did a fantastic job!  They had some incredibly difficult music, and I was extremely proud of all of their hard work.  Congratulations!

The fifth graders began their African drumming unit this week.  They learned about different types of African drums and reviewed call and response form.
