Week of February 20

Only 26 days until Arts in Action!  Students are getting very excited about this event celebrating Music in Our Schools Month and Youth Art Month, which both take place in March.

This week, Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper's classes learned a song called "Closet Key."  They used this song to practice the concepts of singing forte (loud) and piano (soft).  They also played the singing game that goes with this song.  Students in Ms. Waller's class did not have music due to the holiday on Monday.

First and Second graders really saw their concert begin to come together this week, as they worked with all of the costume pieces and the parts they have been working so hard on during recess rehearsals.  Next week they will have their full first grade and full second grade rehearsals in the music room to get a chance to practice with the other classes in their grade level.  They are very excited for this!

Third and fourth graders began to learn their fourth song for their Spring Sing concert this week. This song is a Rock and Roll song, so they compared and contrasted the style of this song to the styles of the other songs they have learned so far.  Some of the classes learned movement for this piece.

Fifth graders were extremely excited to learn their fourth Spring Sing song this week because it is an Elvis song.  They learned about Elvis.  After discussing the draft last week in conjunction with their third song, they were especially interested to find out that Elvis was drafted after he became a famous musician.  They were very surprised to learn that his dance moves were considered so controversial at the time.
