Week of May 20

Congratulations to the 3rd and 4th graders, who had a great Spring Sing performance on Thursday evening!  They should be very proud of their hard work.

This week, the Kindergarteners finished watching a movie called "Let's Make Music," which features Sesame Street characters along with members of the music group, "Stomp."  They really enjoyed the second half of this movie.

First graders created soundscapes this week.  They worked in groups for this activity.  Each group was given a picture, and they determined what sounds they would hear if they were in the picture.  They then figured out how they could make those sounds using unpitched percussion instruments, their own voices, or their bodies.

Second graders played two singing games this week.  The first was to a song called "Pass the Shoe."  This reinforced the concept of macrobeat and microbeat.  The second singing game was with a song called "Mouse, Mousie."  They worked on their sight-singing using do, re, mi, sol, and la with this song.

Third and fourth graders had their Spring Sing assembly on Monday afternoon and their Spring Sing performance on Thursday evening.  They fought the heat on Monday and did very well.  They did an even better job on Thursday night and should be incredibly proud of all of their hard work throughout the entire Spring Sing process.

Fifth graders continued working on their African drumming ensembles this week.  They learned the shekere part for their drumming ensemble and are working on adding it to the drum parts, the agogo bell and gankogui part, and the cowbell part.
