There will be an all-school assembly for Wayne Thomas students and staff on Monday, April 28 during the school day. The 5th Grade date was already sent out and can be found under the "Important Dates" section of this blog. Keep watching here for more information about 1st and 2nd grades!
Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper’s morning class read a story called So-Me and the Spider, which reinforced the pitches "sol" and "mi." They also began to learn a folk dance called "Seven Jumps." This was difficult for them, so they will continue to work on it next week. Students in Ms. Tepper’s afternoon class read a book called Happy Birthday Moon, which taught them about echos. They also sang an echo song called “Time for Music.”
First graders did quite a few activities with a song called "Bounce" this week. They learned several new music symbols, played a singing game, played instruments, and did a rhythmic dictation activity with this song.
Second graders learned a poem that they will be putting on the Orff instruments very soon. They used this poem to review the difference between rhythm and steady beat, and they added a body percussion ostinato. They also worked hard to learn the specific names and voices of each of the Orff instruments.
Third graders sang a song called "Down at the Station" and played it on boomwhackers. They also reviewed the names and voices of each of the Orff instruments and will soon begin playing this song on these instruments.
Fourth graders sang "Cotton-Eye Joe" and then worked in groups to compose movements to this song. They then taught their classmates the movements they came up with, and the class performed all movements together. Students also did a rhythmic dictation activity with "Cotton-Eye Joe." Don't forget that recorder order forms are due on Monday! Recorder Order Form
Fifth graders continued working on their Chinese folk song this week. They began composing movements that depict the form of the piece. They really enjoy this song! Don't forget that recorder orders are due on Monday! Recorder Order Form
