Week of April 21

We had a great week here at Wayne Thomas!  Today we celebrated our military families with a parade and picnic.  We are so happy that we have so many families associated with the military here at Wayne Thomas!

This week in Music...

Kindergarteners read a story called The Very Lonely Firefly.  They learned a song to go along with the story and focused on the direction of the pitches in the song.  They did a creative movement activity using scarves to show the high and low sounds in the song.

First graders read The Little Red Hen and learned a song to go with the character of the Little Red Hen.  They learned multiple parts for the Orff instruments.  Each student is working on holding his own part while the other students are playing a different part.  Next week they will begin composing short songs for each of the other characters in the story.

Second graders learned a song called "Ducks in the Millpond."  They have learned two different Orff instrument parts with this song and are currently working on holding their own parts.  They will be adding an additional instrument next week and learning movement to go with this song.

Third and fourth graders had their full grade level Spring Sing rehearsals this week.  They are doing a great job and look forward to performing for the Wayne Thomas students and staff on Monday.  If you need an extra copy of the information sheet that was sent home, you may access it here:  3rd-4th Spring Sing Info
Again for your reference, here are the colors that students should try to wear on Monday and Wednesday.  They do not need to wear ONLY these colors, but if they have shirts in the color assigned, it would be great!  The idea is not for you to have to go out and buy anything.

Jesters – Bright colors and patterns
French ladies & soldiers – Red
Merlin – Dark blue
Minstrels – Brown
Mighty Medieval Men (all boys not in another group) – Gray
Damsels (all girls not in another group) – Light/pale colors

Fifth graders continued working on their recorder pieces this week.  They were shown the great recorder practice website, JoyTunes, this week.  It can be accessed here, and is a great game for students as they practice their recorders:  http://www.joytunes.com/play/tok=ecrutchfield@nssd112.org
