Read on to learn about some of the highlights from Music this week!
Kindergarteners learned that "piano" is the music word for soft and "forte" is the music word for loud. They chose instruments that could be played piano or forte and performed a song with the instruments.
First graders created nursery rhyme compositions this week. Students worked in groups to select a nursery rhyme, compose movements that fit with the story, and select instruments to bring the story to life. They performed their compositions for their classmates.
Second graders have been working on the difference between macrobeat and microbeat and focusing on using these beats to improvise 4-beat body percussion patterns. They also worked with partners to compose rhythm stick movements in call and response form.
Third and fourth graders continued working on their Spring Sing music this week. They started performing their songs on the risers, which they enjoyed. They also filled out questionnaires telling me what parts they would like for the concert.
Fifth graders started their recorder unit this week. They have been working on "The Snake Charmer," which is the song that they will be tested on in order to earn their white belts.
