We are still looking for people who would be willing to lead workshops for students in 1st-5th grades at our Arts in Action event on Monday, March 21. If you or someone you know would be interested in leading a workshop in an area of the arts (visual arts, drama, music, or dance), please contact Mrs. Crutchfield: ecrutchfield@nssd112.org
Kindergarteners sang and did creative movement to a fall song this week. They learned that every person has four voices: singing, speaking, whispering, and calling. They also learned about the Orff instruments, which include xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels.

Third graders sang and played Orff instruments with a pair of Halloween partner songs. They worked on their mallet technique as they played the instruments and focused on holding their own parts in the songs.
Fourth graders began playing their recorders this week! Mrs. Munson's class has learned B and A, and Mrs. Silberman's class and Mr. Bush's class have learned B, A, and G. They focused on creating a nice tone and articulating properly. Your child should be practicing the recorder at home. Please remind your fourth grader that the left hand should be on top when holding the recorder.
Fifth graders began learning "Circle of Life" this week. They are doing a nice job with their concert music. Fifth graders should be practicing their songs and movements at home. All of the recordings are available under the "Concert Music" section of this blog, so they should be using these to practice.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns: ecrutchfield@nssd112.org.
