Keep reading to learn about some of the highlights from your child's music class this week.
Kindergarteners studied Edvard Grieg's song called "Morning" from "Peer Gynt" this week. They worked on identifying the high and low sounds in this piece.
Second graders compared and contrasted two books and songs that go with the books, The Pout-Pout Fish and The Pout-Pout Fish in the Big-Big Dark. They discovered that the first song is in a major key, and the second is in a minor key. Students used Orff instruments to perform these pieces. They also began learning about the life of George Frideric Handel.
Third graders worked on echo activities and call and response activities using the African drums this week. They began learning an ensemble with the drums, as well.
Fourth graders continued their work with the African drums this week. They began learning the drum parts for an ensemble they will be playing.
Fifth graders continued playing ukuleles this week. They are doing an excellent job with these instruments! Students seem to really enjoy playing them, and they have shown incredible improvement since the beginning of the unit! They will have one more class with the ukuleles next week, and then they will move on to African drumming.
