See below to find out some of the things your child learned in music this week!
Kindergarteners sang a fall song. They discovered that the song starts high and ends low, so they used their bodies and movement scarves to show the melodic direction. Students sang and performed these movements for the class. They were very excited to begin using the Orff instruments (xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels) this week.
First graders began learning a French folk dance that they will be sharing as a part of their upcoming Informances. See the "Important Dates" section of this blog or the note that was sent home for the date and time of your child's Informance!
Second graders began learning an English folk dance that they will be sharing as a part of their upcoming Informances. See the "Important Dates" section of this blog or the note that was sent home for the date and time of your child's Informance!
Third graders analyzed a Halloween song and discovered that it is in rondo form. They began creating a soundscape to go with the text of the song and will be performing it in rondo form.
Fourth graders played a note name board game this week. Mr. Bush's class was very excited to get their recorders. The other two fourth grade classes will receive their recorders early next week during music. Students have not begun playing them in class yet. They were encouraged to hold off playing them at home until they learn the proper technique. It can be very difficult to unlearn poor technique if they practice it wrong!
Fifth graders were excited to find out their positions on the risers this week. They also filled out a sheet letting me know what parts they would like to have for their upcoming concert. Any student interested in a solo should come to the music room next week on Wednesday to do their "Test of Courage." This is an opportunity for them to practice the solo in front of a supportive group to make sure they are comfortable with it.
