See below to learn about some highlights from your child's music class this week.
Kindergarteners were excited to play a game called "Deteggtive Anderson" this week. This game helped them focus on the technique required to play six different unpitched percussion instruments. They also focused on moving to a steady beat in different ways by using a song called "Quaver's ChooChoo Train."
First graders began learning a folk dance this week. This is a partner dance, so they discussed how they can be good partners. They seemed to really enjoy this dance.
Second graders studied Franz Joseph Haydn's "Surprise Symphony" this week. They enjoyed learning the history behind the song. They also learned about current composer and pianist, Emily Bear.
Third graders learned about jazz music this week. They discovered that many musicians have solos in jazz songs, and most of these solos are improvised. They also completed a short assessment to show what they have learned in recent weeks.
Fourth graders completed a review of the letter names on the treble clef staff this week. They did a review worksheet that can be used as a study guide. 4H took their note name quiz on Friday, and 4B will take their quiz on Monday.
Fifth graders learned the movements for their sixth concert piece. They then began putting all of the songs together and working on trouble spots. They should be continuing to practice their Concert Music each night at home.
