Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful winter break. The snow and freezing cold has definitely made for an interesting first week of 2010 at Wayne Thomas! If your child has not had a chance to take a look at the "Solami's Solo" section of the website, he or she may enjoy seeing some of the pictures Solami posted from winter break. The students used their investigative skills to determine that Solami traveled to Scottsdale, AZ during the break.
Students in Kindergarten did a creative movement story called The Naughty Shoes. They also learned a song called "Tap Your Shoulders" and started to figure out the difference between steady beat and rhythm.
First graders had fun doing a partner dance to a Spanish song they learned called "Bate, Bate." They also learned about Chinese Music.
Second graders learned a spoken piece called "Pizza For All" in honor of National Pizza Week. They did an activity that demonstrated a little bit about how sound waves work. They also learned about how their vocal cords vibrate to create sound.
Third graders worked on singers' posture and learned several vocal warm-ups that they would probably be thrilled to teach you! (They seem to enjoy the tongue twisters the most, so watch out...!) They are working on a piece called "Dance for the Nations." This week they learned the song and dance. Next week they will add even more interesting elements...
Fourth graders learned F# on the recorder and how to read F# in a key signature. Most students are currently working on their purple or blue belt songs.
Fifth graders took at look at the recorder music section of the blog, so they should now be comfortable using that at home (with your permission). Most of the fifth graders are working on their orange or green belt songs.
Note for the parents of fourth and fifth grade students: If your child forgets his recorder music at school, he can access this music on the "Recorder Music" page of the blog. Students know the password necessary to access the music.
Have a great week!
