Week of February 16

I have added a new section to the blog!  On the left-hand side of your screen, you should see a new listing under "Pages," titled "Spring Sing Song Sheets."  I have posted the ones students have already received here in case a student leaves his at school or loses it.  The files are password protected, but students have been informed of the password.  Read on to learn about some of what each grade level did in music this week!

Kindergarteners listened to the book Engine, Engine, Number Nine and sang the song with the same name.  They worked on the difference between rhythm and steady beat and were able to label the pitches in "Engine, Engine, Number Nine" as "sol" and "mi."

First graders learned the movements for the second song in their Spring Sing and started learning the vocal part for their third song.  They're doing a nice job holding their part in the sections that have two-part harmony!

Second graders learned the vocal part for their third Spring Sing song.  They also learned about ties, "no breath" markings, and fermatas.  They're really enjoying singing about bugs!

Third and fourth graders sang and learned the movement for their third Spring Sing song, which is about making paper airplanes.  They're doing a great job holding their own parts in the sections with three-part harmony!  Many students were confused about when to pronounce the word "the" like "thee" and when to pronounce it 'thuh,' so we had a discussion about that, too.

Fifth graders finished their recorder unit this week.  If your child would like to continue working outside of class in order to earn the black belt, he is more than welcome to set up a time to test with me.
