This week, Kindergarteners learned about echo from the book, Happy Birthday Moon.  They then came up with different creative movements they could do with the song "Time for Music."

First graders learned about accent marks with "Bounce High."  They discovered that it wasn't as easy as they thought to keep a ball bouncing to the steady beat of the song.  They also dictated the rhythm of the song.

Second graders dictated the rhythm to "Peas Porridge" and began improvising melodies to the first phrase on the barred instruments.  Any student who wanted got to share his creation with the class.

Third graders sang and played boomwhackers to "Down at the Station."  They also reviewed the names of the barred instruments in preparation for playing them next week.

Fourth graders worked in groups to create movements to go with "Cobbler, Cobbler."  They then taught the rest of the class their group's movements.  They also used this song to work on keeping the steady beat in their feet while clapping the rhythm and vice versa.  They discovered that this is very difficult!

Fifth graders did a body percussion piece using pictoral representations for each unique rhythm.  They then worked in groups to create their own composition using these rhythms.
