Week of October 18

If you are not subscribed to the Wayne Thomas Music blog yet, you can sign up by entering your email address in the bottom left-hand corner of the page and then clicking "Create Subscription."  It is easy, so why not stay up-to-date with what your children are learning in music?!

Kindergarteners sang and did movement to a fall song and used each one of their four voices.  They also read iconic representations of long and short sounds.

First graders had an entire day where they sang songs about birds, explored using their voices like birds do, and sang individually in a game.  They also learned how to put sol and mi on a one-line staff and a two-line staff and got to play the barred instruments.

Second graders performed a line dance that had the Cha Cha as one of the main steps.  They also sang "Bats and Cats," which is in a minor key, and created movements to go with the words of the song.

Third graders learned Rondo form and selected unpitched percussion instruments to create a soundscape that they performed in Rondo form.  They also sang two partner songs in minor keys and held their own parts while half the class sang the other song.

Fourth graders performed their group compositions for the class.  They learned the basic information about how to hold and clean their recorders.  They also did a note name review sheet in preparation for their note name quiz next week, on Thursday, October 28. Students have been told that if they would like to review the letter names of the notes more before the quiz, I am available to help them during recess.  Several students have already found this to be very helpful, so remind your children that I would be happy to help during this time!

Fifth graders began playing their recorders this week!  They reviewed the notes B, A, and G and learned high C, and high D.  They also began practicing the song for the white belt, but we will spend more time going over that next week.
