Week of October 24

Many students' favorite song, the "Igor," has taken over the music room this week!  Several kids have asked where they can get a recording of this song.  On the right-hand side of the blog, under "Fun Music Websites," is a site called "Music K-8 Kids."  Click there and do a search for a song called "Do the Igor."  It can be purchased for $1.00.

Also, the Spring Sing dates are now posted on the "Important Dates" page!  We will be having an Arts in Action afternoon this year, too, and that date is posted there, as well.

Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper's morning class played a singing game called "Pumpkin, Pumpkin," where everyone changes from pumpkins into Jack-o-lanterns.  They also sang along with the book 5 Little Pumpkins and then got to play the part of the different pumpkins in the song.  Students in the afternoon Kindergarten class did not have music this week due to the Halloween assembly.

First graders sang and played many different Halloween songs on instruments.  They also did a rhythmic dictation activity with a poem called "Pumpkin Patch."

Second graders did an activity where they figured out the rhythms of various "Halloween phrases" and then performed their phrases on Boomwhackers.  They also sang several Halloween songs and did creative movement with them.

Third graders learned to do the hand jive and worked on performing it at a faster and faster tempo until they could do it at the tempo of the song "Halloween Hand Jive."

Fourth graders learned B and A on their recorders.  They also took a quiz on the letter names of the notes on the treble clef staff.  Most students did very well!  They will be getting their quizzes back next week.  I was pleased that many students took advantage of the extra review time during recess this week before their quiz.  The note names will be very important when they begin reading their recorder music.  They were also shown where they can access their recorder music on this blog.  They do need a password to get access to the music, but they have been given the password.

Fifth graders played an accompaniment to Beethoven's "Fur Elise" on their recorders.  They also played a song called "Halloween B-A-G" to review the notes B, A, and G.  They reviewed how to access their recorder music on this blog using the necessary password.  Students may begin testing for their white belts next week.

HappyHalloween

Have a very happy and safe Halloween!
