If you anticipate looking for something to do the weekend of March 5-6, anyone is welcome to attend a concert I participate in each year at Stevenson High School. I sing with the BG Singers in Buffalo Grove, and we perform a large concert each March. This year’s show is called “That’s Love!” and features all styles of music, including pop, jazz, Broadway, and many more. There are songs for people of all ages. Feel free to take a look at the flyer for information on how to get tickets: BG Singers Concert
This week, Kindergarteners in the afternoon class learned a new note! They learned that eighth notes go faster than quarter notes and are counted by clapping and saying, "ti-ti." They also played a singing game with the song "Closet Key" to reinforce loud and soft sounds. Students in the morning class played a singing game with a song called "Lemonade." They enjoyed coming up with different ways to play rhythm sticks so that they sound loud and soft.
First and Second graders were very excited to learn their first song for their Spring Sing! They learned to sing the song and learned movements for it, as well. They discovered that half of the song is sung in a round, so holding their own parts is the most difficult thing for them.
Third and Fourth graders learned movement for their second Spring Sing song and began singing their third song. This song is about global warming, so we talked about global warming and climate change this week. Many students have really become interested in this topic!
Fifth graders took a Passport to Music trip to Italy this week! They looked at Italian art and monuments and learned about popular Italian music and Italian opera. They sang and played Orff instruments to "Funiculi, Funicula." They were very interested in the story of Puccini's opera, "Turandot." They listened to the song "Nessun dorma" from this opera. They also listened to Puccini's "O mio babbino caro" performed by Charlotte Church when she was just about their age.
Enjoy the long weekend!
