Week of September 12

Read on to find out what your students learned in music this week!

This week, Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper’s classes learned a folk dance called "Seven Jumps."  Students in Ms. Waller’s class read a story called So-me Goes Missing and sang "Good Day Song."

First graders learned about accent marks and repeat signs by singing "Bounce High."  They played a game with this song and enjoyed using the Promethean Board to dictate the rhythm.

Second graders began an activity with the poem "Peas Porridge Hot."  They found the beat and rhythm of the poem and worked on a body percussion ostinato.  They also learned about the pentatonic scale, which is a scale that has five pitches (do, re, mi, sol, and la)

Third graders sang a song called "Down at the Station" and performed it with Boomwhackers.  They also reviewed the pentatonic scale and the names of the Orff instruments, so they will be ready to play them next week.

Fourth graders taught the rest of the class the movements they created to "Cobbler, Cobbler."  They also began a song called "Tom, Tom," which they will be putting on instruments.  All fourth graders must turn in a recorder form, even if they do not need to order an instrument.  You may access the form here:  Recorder Order Form  Recorder orders are due Tuesday, September 27.

Fifth graders analyzed a piece called "Getting Around" this week and began to perform it using Boomwhackers.  If your fifth grader needs to order a recorder, you may access the form here: Recorder Order Form  Recorder orders are due Tuesday, September 27.
