It has been a busy week at Wayne Thomas! Don't forget that fourth and fifth graders' recorder forms are due Tuesday. Read on to learn about some of the highlights from the music room!
This week, Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper’s classes used the story Wiggle and Waggle to find their high and low voices. They also played a singing game. Students in Ms. Waller’s class watched and sang along with a movie called "I'd Like to Teach the World To Sing," which has music from all around the world. (Mrs. Crutchfield was at a workshop, so Ms. Waller's class had a substitute teacher on Monday.)
First graders brought their science knowledge into the music room this week as they sang and played instruments to songs about bees. They even taught Mrs. Crutchfield a little something about bees! They also began learning about the Orff instruments.
Second graders worked on the xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels to compose new ways to play the rhythm of the poem, "Peas Porridge Hot." So far, students have performed their ideas for the first two lines, and each class has voted on their favorite ways to play the lines. This will then become a part of the class composition.
Third graders began playing "Down at the Station" on Orff instruments this week. Orff instruments include xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels. Students are very excited to begin their first sticker contest in music class next week!
Fourth graders learned two ostinati to go with "Tom, Tom." They did a great job holding their own parts while having two other groups performing different parts at the same time. Don't forget: Recorder Forms are due Tuesday!! EVERY fourth grader should turn in a form, even if he does not need to order an instrument.
Fifth graders performed "Getting Around," which they discovered to be in ABAC form, on boomwhackers. They really enjoyed this song! Remember, Recorder Forms are due Tuesday if your child needs to order one!
