Kindergarteners sang a song called "Lemonade" this week. This helped to reinforce the idea of rhythm vs. steady beat and using their light singing voices. They played rhythm sticks with this song and played a singing game with it.
First and second graders sang and learned movement for their third Spring Sing song this week! They focused on the concepts of repeated and contrasting melodic phrases and major and minor keys in this song. Students may begin bringing in hats from home to use as costume pieces in the performance if they have them. Each hat will be labeled with a piece of masking tape and kept in an individually sealed bag, so each student will only be touching his own hat. The baggies will be sealed as soon as the hats are removed and then sealed again as soon as the hat is put back inside. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Crutchfield.
Third and fourth graders began learning their fourth song for their Spring Sing this week. This song features waltzes by Johann Strauss and Pyotr Tchaikovsky, so students focused their studies on these composers. Please remind your children to practice their songs and movements for homework!
Fifth graders wrote reflections about last week's opera visit in their Passports. They also sang and learned movements for their fourth Spring Sing song. They have been studying a little bit about the history of the songs they are singing and the performers who made the songs popular. They seem to really be enjoying this style of music!
