Week of February 25

Congratulations to all students who performed in the Talent Show on Friday evening.  All participants did a fantastic job and should be proud of their hard work!

Kindergarteners began learning a song called "Closet Key" in order to reinforce the difference between loud (forte) and soft (piano).  They also used crescendo (gradually getting louder) and decrescendo (gradually getting softer) in a singing game with this piece.

First and second graders began working on their fourth song for their Spring Sing this week.  They learned that this is a patriotic song, and they worked on singing in chords in this piece.  They learned movement for this song, too.  Students who have not yet brought their hats in should bring them in by early next week.  They will be labeled and safely stored.  If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Crutchfield.

Third and fourth graders learned their fifth Spring Sing song this week.  This song features the music of Beethoven, so they did learn about Beethoven this week.  Many students said this is their favorite piece yet!

Fifth graders began learning the fifth song for their Spring Sing this week.  They learned the history behind the song and started learning movement, as well.  Any fifth grade student who is interested in helping to write the script for the Spring Sing should come to the music room during recess on Tuesday!

Music Activity of the Week

Dr. Seuss was born on March 2, 1904.  In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday, select your favorite Dr. Seuss book, and try to turn it into a song by singing the words.
