Week of April 1

Keep reading to learn about some of the highlights from your child's experience in music during the past week!

This week, kindergarteners discovered that the form of "Twinkle, Twinkle" is ABA.  They created movements for the A and B sections and performed these.  They also listened to The Star Story, which helped to reinforce the difference between high and low sounds.  Next week they will continue this part of the activity with a movement activity using characters from The Star Story.

First and second graders were very excited to find out what parts they will have for the Spring Sing!  They began rehearsing all of their songs with the speaking parts and singing solos included.  This process of adding in each of the special parts takes some time, but students always feel that it is worth the effort and enjoy the final product!  Students who have speaking parts or singing solos should be working on their parts at home.

Third and fourth graders were also very excited to learn their parts for the Spring Sing this week!  They began the process of putting their special parts together with the songs that they have already been working on.  Students who have speaking parts or singing solos should be working on their parts at home.  Students with xylophone, glockenspiel, or recorder parts will be receiving music soon so that they, too, can work on their parts at home.

Fifth graders worked really hard on their concert music this week.  Many students had lunch and recess rehearsals this week, and during class time, the students were beginning to sing out a little bit more.  All students should have brought home a Spring Sing information sheet this week.  If you did not receive it, you can access it on the "Important Dates" section of the blog or right here:  5th Grade Fine Arts Night

Music Activity of the Week

The April and May 2013 Calendar Connections have been posted under the "Musical Almanac & Calendar" section of the blog.  This is a great way to make musical connections with your children.
