Week of April 8

The below sections are color-coded by grade level to provide you with some of the highlights from your child's experiences in music this week.  Read on!

This week, kindergarteners did a movement activity with the characters from The Star Story.  They acted out the parts of the sky star and the starfish, which represented the high and low sounds.  They listened for the music representing each character and students holding the corresponding shape moved in either a high or low way.  Students then did an activity to see if they could identify high and low sounds.  They also discussed performance etiquette in preparation for those students who may be attending upcoming Spring Sing performances (or other performances in the community!)

First and second graders went through the entire Spring Sing throughout the course of the week, adding in most of the extra parts.  One group has practiced so far at recess, but recess rehearsals will really get going next week for specific parts!  Each student's classroom teacher will have the schedule and will notify your child if he or she has a recess rehearsal.

Third and fourth graders continued adding their parts into the songs and scenes as they worked their way through their Spring Sing.  There were two recess rehearsals this week for third and fourth grade students, and there will be more next week.  Students with xylophone, glockenspiel, and recorder parts received their music early in the week and should be practicing it at home.

Fifth graders are getting excited for their Spring Sing, which is next week!  Their assembly for the students and staff at Wayne Thomas is on Monday, and their evening concert is Wednesday at Wayne Thomas.  See the information sheet that was sent home last week for more information.  You can also access it on the “Important Dates” section of the blog or right here:  5th Grade Fine Arts Night
