This week, kindergarteners read a book called Bearful Bear and His New Moves. They identified the movement words in the story and then used these words to act out the various roles in the book. They had a lot of fun with this activity! Many students said that this is their new favorite book. If you are interested in seeing this book for yourselves, you can take a look here: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/6113878.Anna_Lee_Everhart
First and second graders were thrilled to get to use their hats for the first time this week! Due to the lice outbreak in first and second grade, we have not used the hats at all up until this point. They have been in individual sealed plastic bags. Hats still remain in individual sealed plastic bags when students are not wearing them, but they did get to begin using them this week! You should have received an information sheet about the Spring Sing this week. If you did not, it can be accessed here: 1st-2nd Spring Sing Info
Third and fourth graders had several recess rehearsals this week for specific parts. They continued adding their parts into the show as a whole and are doing a great job.
Fifth graders had their Spring Sing this week! They did a great job in both the assembly for the students and staff on Monday and in the evening performance on Wednesday. Thank you to all of the family members who fought the weather to come to the concert Wednesday evening. The students should be proud of their hard work.
Music Activity of the Week
In this section during the past two weeks, we have looked at Stomp videos. This week, as a family, walk around your backyard or through your neighborhood and discover how many sounds you can create with ordinary things. Try a stick on a fence or the side of a garbage pail. What about rustling the branch of a tree or hitting two rocks together? Combine two or more sounds and see what you come up with! Those who saw the 5th Grade Spring Sing may recognize some of these techniques from there!
