Week of April 22

Keep reading for information about your child's experiences in music over the past week!

This week, kindergarteners identified all characters from Bearful Bear and His New Moves and determined what kinds of sounds these characters would likely make.  They then began the process of learning about the unpitched percussion instruments and finding instruments that would be able to play the sounds that each character makes.

First and second graders had their full-grade Spring Sing rehearsals this week.  They really enjoyed having the opportunity to perform the music with the other classes in their grade levels.  Monday is the Spring Sing assembly for Wayne Thomas students and staff.  Wednesday evening is the performance for family members.  If you need another copy of the information sheet that was sent home, it can be accessed here:  1st-2nd Spring Sing Info

Third and fourth graders are doing a great job of beginning to piece their entire Spring Sing together.  Any student who has a speaking part, instrument part, or singing solo should be practicing these parts at home.  All students should be practicing their songs at home in order to ensure that they know the correct pitches and all of the lyrics.

Fifth graders had their second visit by professional opera performers this week!  The 112 Education Foundation and Ravinia Festival brought South Shore Opera to Wayne Thomas this week for the fifth graders to enjoy.  They performed music from a variety of operas, including Aida, Rigoletto, and The Magic Flute.

Music Activity of the Week

Take a look at the unique way that this group called "The Piano Guys" uses a piano:  http://quietube5.com/v.php/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VqTwnAuHws  They are able to create the sound of an entire band out of just one instrument!
