Week of January 21

Please check your calendars to ensure that you have the dates for these special upcoming music events:

2nd Grade Informances - Thursday, February 20

1st Grade Informances - Friday, February 21

Arts in Action - Thursday, March 27

3rd-4th Grade Spring Sing - Wednesday, April 30 (assembly on Monday, April 28)

Kindergarteners read Engine, Engine, Number Nine this week and learned the song of the same name.  They worked on differentiating between rhythm and steady beat in the song, and they played unpitched percussion instruments.

First graders learned about the percussion family this week and focused on determining which percussion instruments are pitched and which are unpitched.  They studied the percussion section from Benjamin Britten's "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra."

Second graders worked in groups to compose their own melodies to a poem about pizza.  They then performed their songs on the xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels.

Third graders were recorded singing "Dance for the Nations."  This recording is a singing assessment, and all students will listen to their own recordings next week in order to self-assess.

Fourth graders worked very hard on their recorders this week.  Many students chose to come in and test during recess in addition to music class.  Next week is their last week of the recorder unit in class.

Fifth graders created new versions of the body percussion piece they worked on last week.  They changed the original version to be whatever they wanted, and then they added unpitched percussion instruments to the song and performed for the class.
