Week of January 29

1st and 2nd grade parents should have received information about the upcoming Informances in your child's backpack this week.  You can also download a copy of the letter under the "Important Dates" section of this blog.

Kindergarteners played the poem, "Wee Willie Winkie" on xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels this week.  They also reviewed quarter notes and quarter rests.

First graders continued learning about the instrument families this week.  They studied the woodwind family and listened to J.S. Bach's "Little Fugue in G Minor," which features several instrument families.  They played an instrument family review game, too.

Second graders played a game using body percussion improvisation.  This game featured a song called "One Small Musician."  They also played a sight-reading game called "Red Rover."  They are working on sight-reading the pitches in a pentatonic scale: do, re, mi, sol, and la.

Third graders listened to their recordings this week and did self-assessments.  Each child then had a conference with Mrs. Crutchfield in order to set a singing goal to be worked on every day in Music.

Fourth graders concluded their recorder unit this week.  Students worked hard in this unit, and most students really seem to enjoy playing this instrument.  If they would like to continue testing for belts, they may come in during recess to do so.

Fifth graders played a game called Streets & Alleys.  This game featured locomotor and stationary movements, body percussion, and instruments.  They had a lot of fun with this activity!
