Week of February 3

Keep reading to find out about some of the highlights from your child's music class this week.

Kindergarteners sang a song called "Grizzly Bear" that helped to reinforce piano (soft) and forte (loud).  They really enjoyed playing a game with this song.

First graders concluded their instrument unit this week by learning about the conductor and watching "Peter and the Wolf," which was composed by Sergei Prokofiev.  They were able to identify the instruments that represented each character.  They will conclude this activity next week.  Many students said this is their new favorite movie, so if you would like to have it at home, it can be purchased here:  http://www.amazon.com/Peter-Wolf-Kirstie-Alley/dp/B00008EY6W/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1391805977&sr=8-11&keywords=peter+and+the+wolf  Don't forget about the upcoming Informances on Friday, February 21!

Second graders played many instruments to a book called Bear's Loose Tooth.  They also learned that a whole note gets four beats of sound by doing this activity.  They then did two activities to reinforce both macrobeat vs. microbeat and locomotor vs. stationary movements.  Don't forget about the upcoming Informances on Thursday, February 20!

Third and fourth graders began learning music for their Spring Sing this week!  They learned to sing and perform movements for the first song.  They should be practicing this at home to ensure they know the words and movements.  If they need extra copies of the lyric sheets, they can be accessed under the "Concert Music" section of the blog.  Their evening performance is Wednesday, April 30 at Elm Place at 7pm, and their assembly for the school is on Monday, April 28.

Fifth graders performed a song called "Getting Around" using the boomwhackers this week.  They really liked this activity, as it took a LOT of concentration!
