Week of February 18

We had a very exciting week here at Wayne Thomas!  Besides the crazy weather that has made for an interesting week, the first and second graders took part in their Informances on Thursday and Friday.  Fourth graders had Immigration Day this week, and fifth graders took their Cogat Test.  Keep reading to find out about some of the highlights from your child's week in Music!

Kindergarteners started singing a song called "Closet Key," which introduced them to the eighth note and helped them review piano and forte singing.  They played a game with this song, as well.

First graders had their Informances this week!  The students were incredibly excited (and nervous!) to have their special guests in their music class.  They really enjoyed dancing with the grown ups and showing some of the things they have been learning.  If anyone happens to have photos or videos from the first grade Informances and wouldn't mind making copies for me, I would love to have them!

Second graders also had their Informances this week!  As they have been reflecting on this experience, most students said that their favorite part was dancing with their moms or dads.  They really enjoyed having their guests see what they do in Music, and many have already asked if they can do it again sometime.  If anyone has photos or videos from the second grade Informances and wouldn't mind making copies, I would love to have them!

Third and fourth graders began learning their third Spring Sing song and movement this week.  They really have to do a lot of acting in the songs they have learned so far, and most students are having lots of fun getting into character!  Their Spring Sing is on Wednesday, April 30 at 7pm at Elm Place!

Fifth graders did African drumming this week.  They really enjoy playing the tubanos, djembes, and gathering drum!  They learned about the kpanlogo drum from Ghana, as well.
