Week of March 10

If you are interested in discussing your child's progress in Music, which is reflected on the report card, feel free to stop by during Conferences next week!  I will be available during the following times:

Wednesday: 4-8pm

Thursday: 12-2:30pm, 6-8pm

Friday: 8am-12pm

This week in Music, Kindergarteners did a creative movement activity with "Twinkle, Twinkle."  They used stationary and locomotor movements to show the form of the song (ABA).  They also discovered that often times, the bigger the instrument, the lower it sounds.  They made predictions about the sound of an instrument based on its size.

First graders did a partner dance to a song called "Bow Wow Wow."  They also did rhythmic dictation activities using popsicle sticks with two songs.  They learned a new note, the half note, by playing a singing game with "Here Comes a Bluebird."

Second graders continued working with Ping Pong Pig this week.  They learned an Orff instrument part for the song that is performed when the characters in the story say a particular phrase.  They then added all of the parts together: vocal pathways, soundscape using unpitched percussion instruments, and Orff instruments.  They also dictated the rhythm of the song.  All students said they really enjoyed the learning activities with Ping Pong Pig!

Third and fourth graders began learning the instrument parts for the Spring Sing this week.  They filled out a questionnaire ranking all of the parts in the Spring Sing, and they will find out what their parts are within the next couple of weeks.  Students now know ALL of the songs in the concert, and they know movement for most of them.  At home, they should be working on memorizing their words and movements.

Fifth graders added cowbell, gankogui, and agogo bell parts to their African percussion song.  They have also learned high, medium, and low drum parts and a shekere part.  They are doing a really great job holding their own parts!
