Keep reading to find out about what your child learned in Music this week!
Kindergarteners focused on high and low sounds this week, using a story called The Star Story. They did a movement activity featuring high and low sounds and movements with a song called "Star and Starfish." They also sang and came up with creative movements to "Twinkle, Twinkle."
First graders created soundscapes this week. Each group chose a nursery rhyme and used movements and instruments to bring the rhyme to life. They then performed a second soundscape, bringing a picture to life using unpitched percussion instruments.
Second graders read a story called Ping Pong Pig and used the book to create vocal pathways and soundscapes. They used unpitched percussion instruments to bring the book to life, and they sang a song that fit into the story. They really enjoyed this activity!
Third and fourth graders have now learned the first five songs for their Spring Sing. They have learned the movements for these, as well. They should be practicing the songs and movements at home. They are doing a great job so far!
Fifth graders continued their African percussion unit. So far, they know three different drum parts and a shekere part for the song they are currently working on. They really like doing question and answer activities using the drums!
