Kindergarteners played rhythm sticks and egg shakers to a song called "Time for Music." They performed this as an echo song. They also performed creative movements on the steady beat and read a story called So-me and the Spider, which helped them think about all of the sounds they hear around them every day.
First graders taught Mrs. Crutchfield all they know about bees in honor of a bee song they sang and played instruments to in music this week. They also did a rhythmic dictation activity with this song, where they figured out what notes (quarter notes, eighth notes, or quarter rests) are used to make up the rhythm of the song. They began discussing how sounds are made, as well, to go along with their sound unit in STEM.
Second graders worked on identifying each barred instrument this week. They began playing the Orff instruments and will continue working on these instruments as they compose next week.
Third graders began accompanying themselves using the Orff instruments this week. Orff instruments include xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels. They are working on being able to sing and play the instruments at the same time.
Fourth graders did a self-assessment of their "Down the River" video performances. You can view these videos under the "Student Performances" section of this blog. Parents of fourth grade students should now all have a copy of the recorder order form. The forms and payments are due back to Mrs. Crutchfield by Monday, September 29. You may access the recorder order form here: Recorder Order Form
Fifth graders completed their Scandinavian folk song and dance. This is a complicated dance, and they did a really nice job with it. They should make certain that they have the song completely memorized. Any fifth grader who needs to order a recorder or two should have received a copy of the recorder order form during music. The forms and payments are due to Mrs. Crutchfield by Monday, September 29. The form may also be accessed here: Recorder Order Form
