Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper's morning class read a book called If You're A Monster and You Know It. They created a soundscape using unpitched percussion instruments to bring the story to life. Students in Ms. Tepper's afternoon class did not have music due to the Halloween festivities.
First graders performed a Halloween song on the Orff instruments. They also played a couple of Halloween-themed singing games this week. Don't forget about the upcoming Informances! See the "Important Dates" section of this blog for specific times.
Second graders learned a song called "Nine Lives." This song helped them learn about major and minor tonalities. They did a rhythmic dictation activity with this song and performed it on the Orff instruments. Don't forget about the upcoming Informances! See the "Important Dates" section of this blog for specific times.
Third graders sang two partner songs this week. They performed them in groups and arranged the piece in their preferred order. They did a nice job with this activity.
Fourth graders should all now have their recorders. Students in Mr. Bush's class and Mrs. Silberman's class began learning their first notes this week. They should be practicing their instruments at home. Students in Mrs. Munson's class will begin playing the recorders on Monday.
Fifth graders learned the movement for their African folk song. They also voted in order to determine which class will perform each of the large dances in their December performance. Many students came in twice this week during recess to brainstorm ideas for the plot of their show. Any interested fifth grader may come to the music room during recess next Monday and Wednesday in order to begin writing the script. They get to include their own ideas in order to make this concert their own!
