Week of November 17

The 1st & 2nd grade Informances took place this week.  Thank you to those parents who came to be a part of this special event.  The students loved having you there!

Kindergarteners performed an echo song this week.  They sang and did movements to this song about Thanksgiving.  They then worked on playing long and short sounds with the rhythm sticks.

First graders had their Informances on Monday & Tuesday.  They did a reflection of the Informance experience later in the week, and almost every child said that they had a great time and loved getting to dance with their parents.  They also studied a section of Orff's Carmina Burana this week.

Second graders had their Informances on Thursday.  They were very excited to see many of their parents in music class, and they really enjoyed getting to dance with their families.  Thank you to those who were able to come for this special event!

Third graders learned about the music of the Maori people of New Zealand this week.  They played a traditional Maori stick game called "Tititorea."  They also played percussion instruments with a song called "When I First Came to This Land."  The percussion instruments were chosen based on the tone color of each instrument and how it fit in with the characters in the song.

Fourth graders continued working on their first and second recorder songs.  Many students did their playing tests for the first song.  All of their songs are available under the "Recorder Music" section of this blog.  They should continue practicing over the Thanksgiving break, if possible.

Fifth graders did a great job starting to put all of their individual parts together in their concert songs.  They are working on creating postcards, which will be used as props in the concert.  They should continue practicing their concert music at home, and they will have their full fifth grade rehearsal when we get back from Thanksgiving break.
