Week of October 5

Keep reading to learn about some of the highlights from your child's music classes this week!

Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper's afternoon class had a substitute and watched a movie featuring songs from around the world.  They did movements with the songs.  Students in the morning class did not have music this week due to the early release on Friday.

First graders began learning a folk dance called "Chimes of Dunkirk."  They were very excited about this dance, and many students have said they even practiced it at home!

Second graders continued playing the Orff instruments with "Peas Porridge Hot" this week.  They performed their ideas for one another and created a class composition of this song.

Third graders analyzed several pieces of music that had the common theme of hope.  They read an Emily Dickinson poem called "Hope," as well.  They studied Mozart's "Ein Kleine Nachtmusik" and learned to conduct in 3/4 time.

Fourth graders reviewed for their note name quiz this week.  Students in Mrs. Silberman's class took their quiz on Wednesday.  Mr. Bush's class will have their quiz next Wednesday, 10/14, and Mrs. Munson's class will have their quiz on Friday, 10/16.

Fifth graders learned "The Bare Necessities" this week.  They sang the song and performed movements with it.  Students who were interested in helping to write the script for their concert began working on it during recess.
