Week of December 14

I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday break.  Read on to find out about some of the things your students learned in Music this week.  I look forward to seeing them all back at Wayne Thomas in January!

Kindergarteners composed movements to their snowman song.  They used tone bells to play the melody of this song.  They also did a creative movement activity using walking (steady, or even sounds) and galloping (syncopated, or uneven sounds) in songs.

First graders continued working on sight-singing this week.  They also began to learn about call and response form, and they sang and played instruments with a song about different types of bells.

Second graders listened to their singing recordings this week.  Each student graded his own recording and then conferenced with me, and we set singing goals that they will work toward for their next recording.

Third graders were video recorded performing their "Nutcracker March" movements.  They then assessed their video performances.  Many students were surprised to see how well the movements looked on camera!

Fourth graders continue to do a nice job with their recorders.  They will complete the recorder unit after winter break.

Fifth graders watched a movie called "Stomp Out Loud" this week.  It features percussionists using non-traditional items to create music.  They really enjoyed this, and it prepares them for the first activity they will do after winter break.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns:  ecrutchfield@nssd112.org.
