Week of January 25

See below to learn about some of the things your child learned in Music this week!

Kindergarteners sang a song about a cat and did creative movements.  This song helped them to differentiate between high and low sounds.  They also used barred percussion instruments to perform the song.

First graders continued learning about the string instrument family this week and began learning about the percussion family, as well.  They studied "Pizzicato Polka" by Johann Strauss, Jr.  They are doing a great job in the instrument unit so far!

Second graders worked on Orff instruments this week to compose their own versions of the "Pizza" song they have been learning.  They worked in groups and performed their compositions for the class.

Third graders continued working on "The Land of Nod" this week.  They used Orff instruments and unpitched percussion instruments to create a great performance of this poem.

Fourth graders completed their recorder unit this week.  This group of fourth graders worked especially hard on their music during this unit.  More students than ever before earned their black belts!  Students who want to continue working on their songs outside of class may sign up for a time to test during recess if they choose to.

Fifth graders reviewed the letter names of the notes on the treble clef staff and began their recorder unit this week.  They reviewed the notes B, A, G, high C, and high D on the recorder.
