Keep reading to learn about some of the highlights from your child's Music class this week!
Kindergarteners continued working on the xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels this week. They practiced playing a song called "Kitty Cat, I Hear A Mouse" on these instruments.
Second graders sang a song called "John Kanaka-naka-tu-lai-ay" this week. They worked in teams to compose rhythm stick movements that show the rhythm of the response section of the song. They enjoyed this activity.
Third and fourth graders began learning their first Spring Sing song this week. They were excited to learn that the theme of the concert is food. Students should be practicing their concert music and movements at home. They may access the songs under the "Concert Music" section of this blog. Make sure your calendars are marked for the Spring Sing! The evening performance will be on Wednesday, May 4 at 7pm at Elm Place Middle School. There will also be an assembly performance for Wayne Thomas students and staff during the day on Monday, May 2.
Fifth graders learned their first recorder song this week. A few students even did their playing tests on this song already. Students work at their own pace during the recorder unit. They have the opportunity to earn "recorder belts" for the completion of different songs and skills. Most students are very excited about this unit.
