If you have a child in 3rd or 4th grade, please make sure to check the Spring Sing Information sheet that was sent home last week. It has all of the details about the upcoming concert, including time, location, clothing attire, etc. Your child may always pick up an extra copy from the table outside the music room. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Kindergarteners read Bearful Bear and His New Moves this week. They used the ideas in the book to create movements and act out the story. They also created a soundscape to the book, using instruments to bring the story to life.
Second graders used xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels to accompany themselves with their "Ping Pong Pig" song. They also used unpitched percussion instruments to create "working" sounds to go with the story. They began to compose rhythms for their unpitched percussion instruments and will complete that next week.
Third and fourth graders have begun putting all of their singing, movements, speaking parts, instrument parts, and solo sections together in preparation for their upcoming Spring Sing, which will take place the evening of Wednesday, May 4. They will perform in an assembly for the school on Monday, May 2.
Fifth graders enjoyed attending a performance at Ravinia this week! They saw "The Firebird Suite," by Igor Stravinsky. They were very respectful audience members. They also began playing the ukuleles during music.
