Week of May 31

Most students in 1st through 5th grades chose to perform something for our Sharing Days this week.  It was a fantastic opportunity for them to share their hard work with a supportive audience!  We have extremely talented, hard working students here at Wayne Thomas!

Kindergarteners did not have music this week.  Instead, both the morning and afternoon students attended a presentation by the Highland Park Library.  They learned about the summer reading program that the library offers, and they were introduced to several books they might be interested in reading this summer!

First graders concluded their study of Camille Saint-Saens' "Carnival of the Animals."  They also had their Sharing Days and really enjoyed performing for one another!  There were so many students in Ms. Janowiak's class who wanted to perform for Sharing Day that we did not get to everyone.  We will finish their performances on Tuesday during their music class.

Second graders concluded their study of George Frideric Handel's life this week.  They also did an excellent job with their Sharing Day performances!

Third graders finished African drumming this week.  They seemed to really enjoy this unit.  Many third graders performed for Sharing Day, and they did a great job!

Fourth graders concluded their African drumming unit this week.  They did a great job holding their own parts in their ensemble piece.  They also had Sharing Day!

Fifth graders worked on African percussion music this week.  They enjoyed playing the drums.  The fifth graders also had some really impressive performances for Sharing Day!
