Week of September 26

Don't forget:  There is no school this coming Monday, October 3, and there is an early release (1:00 dismissal) on Friday, October 7.  (Only PM Kindergarteners attend on Friday, October 7.)  Keep reading to find out about what your child learned in Music this week!

Kindergarteners sang and moved to a fall song about leaves this week.  They took turns being audience members and performers as they performed this song for their classmates.  They practiced being good audience members by listening and applauding at the end of each performance.  Students demonstrated each of their four voices with this song.

First graders were very excited to play the Orff instruments this week!  Orff instruments include xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels.  They played several different nursery rhymes on the instruments and accompanied their singing in a song called "Tune In."

Second graders composed their own melody for "Peas Porridge Hot" this week.  They used the Orff instruments to try out various tunes, performed their favorites for the class, and combined the top choices to create a class composition.  They will be adding a B-section to this song next week!

Third graders put all of their instrumental accompaniment parts together this week.  They had five different accompaniment parts going at once: two different Orff instrument parts, two different Boomwhacker parts, and a sand block part.  Each student played all of the different parts while singing!

Fourth graders continued working on identifying the letter names of the notes on the treble clef staff.  They did several review activities in preparation for their note name quizzes.  Mr. Bush's class had their quiz on Friday.  Mrs. Munson's class will take their quiz on Tuesday, and Mrs. Silberman's class will take the quiz on Wednesday.  They can play this Note Name Game for extra practice!

Fifth graders learned an Israeli song this week!  Some of the students were very excited because they were already familiar with the song.  The song is performed in Hebrew, and we have some 5th grade "experts" who were able to help everyone else!
