Read on to learn about some of the highlights from your child's music class this week. You can also see many photos from classes by following Mrs. Crutchfield on Twitter. (Click "Follow" on the left side of the main blog page.)
Kindergarteners in the afternoon class reviewed piano and forte this week. They sang two songs in this way and identified many different sounds that would typically be either piano or forte. Students in the morning class did not have music this week due to Friday's early release.
Second graders began learning a song about pizza in order to celebrate National Pizza Week, which takes place this week! They performed the song in a canon and did body percussion with it. They also played several different unpitched percussion instruments to accompany themselves. They have just begun working in groups to compose their own tunes for this piece.
Third graders made individual singing recordings of a song called "Dance for the Nations." While students were making their recordings, the rest of the class did a worksheet to help them review many of the music symbols we have focused on this year.
Fourth graders continued working on their recorder music this week. A few students earned their black belts! They are now coaches in their classes in order to help other students do their best playing. We reviewed Joytunes, the recorder game that was introduced last week. Students can earn bonus Dojo points for playing Joytunes at home. They can access the game here. (There is additional information about it on the "Recorder Music" section of this blog.)
Fifth graders continued working on their body percussion compositions this week. They then performed their songs for their peers. Many groups got very creative in their performances! Some groups even had different people performing different parts. One group performed their song in a canon!
