Keep reading to find out about some of the things your child learned in Music this week!
Kindergarteners performed "Wee Willie Winkie" on the xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels. They learned that the lower sounding notes are all the way on the left of the instrument (the longer bars), and the higher pitches are one the right side (the higher bars). We use the phrase, "Low is left and long" to help them remember this. They were very excited to play these instruments!
Second graders focused on sight-singing. They sight-read several songs and played singing games with them. They were also recorded singing a song called "Mouse, Mousie" for a singing assessment. They will listen to their own recordings next week, grade them using a rubric, and conference with me to set a singing goal to work toward for the next term.
Third and fourth graders learned the singing and movements for the second half of their fourth concert song this week. They should be working on memorizing their songs for homework. All of the recordings are available under the "Concert Music" section of this blog. They should be practicing with the recordings at home.
Fifth graders did an excellent job with their recorder music this week. Many students worked so hard that they earned multiple belts this week! They will have about one more week of recorder playing in class. After that point, if they still wish to test for belts, they can set up a time to work with me during recess.
