Week of March 13

Read on to learn about some of the things your child learned in Music this week!

Kindergarteners read a book called Engine, Engine, Number Nine and sang a song of the same name.  They focused on the difference between rhythm and steady beat, and they were very excited to perform both using egg shakers and the gathering drum.

First graders were very excited to watch Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" this week.  They were able to identify the instruments that played each character's theme.  Many students said this is their new favorite movie!

Second graders assessed their own singing recordings this week.  Each student had a conference with me, and we set a singing goal for them to work toward during the next term.  They also read a book called Ping Pong Pig and learned a song that they added to the story.  They will be doing more work with this book next week.

Third and fourth graders continued working on their concert music this week.  Students in most classes filled out a sheet letting me know what parts they are interested in having for their Spring Sing.  Any student interested in a solo will be doing a "test of courage" next week.  This is their opportunity to perform the solo in front of their peers to make sure they are comfortable doing it.  4th graders who would like solos will do this on Monday during recess; 3rd graders will do this on Tuesday during recess.  Any interested student who will be leaving early for spring break needs to see me ahead of time if they would like a solo.

Fifth graders began to wrap up their recorder unit this week.  Students have worked very hard, especially in the past couple of weeks.  They have been very motivated to earn as many belts as they possibly can!
