Week of April 24

We had a great week at Wayne Thomas!  Today we had the privilege of celebrating our Military families with an assembly and breakfast.  The 3rd & 4th graders will perform their Spring Sing next week!  We also have a celebratory end-of-year ABC Countdown that begins next week on Wednesday.  See information from your child's classroom teacher for details of the ABC Countdown!

Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper's morning class read a book called Up, Down, and Around, which talked all about how various vegetables grow in gardens.  They then used their voices, bodies, movement ribbons, and Orff instruments to perform the "ups" and "downs."  Students in the afternoon class did not have music this week due to the early dismissal on Friday.

First graders learned a little bit about Australian marsupials this week.  They studied kangaroos, koalas, sugar gliders, and wombats.  They then acted out the parts of each mammal in a song called "Jump Like a Kangaroo!"  They also learned two new symbols this week:  the half note and half rest.  They used these in a singing game called "Here Comes the Bluebird."

Second graders performed a second book in the "Pout-Pout Fish" series with instruments this week.  They also read Giraffes Can't Dance and began researching styles of movement, which they will use next week as inspiration for movement compositions.

Third and fourth graders had their full grade level Spring Sing rehearsals this week.  They enjoyed performing the music with the other classes.  They will perform in front of the school on Monday afternoon.  This assembly is for WT students and teachers and any parents who are unable to attend Wednesday evening's performance.  If you cannot attend the evening concert and would like to attend the assembly, please email Mrs. Crutchfield right away, so we can have a place set up for you.  Access the information that was sent out about the concert here: 3rd-4th Grade Concert Info

Fifth graders really enjoy playing the ukuleles.  Most students have finished working on the Beethoven piece that they were using to practice plucking the strings.  They are now focusing on several different chords and strumming patterns, which they use in all of their other songs.

As always, please free to contact me with any questions or concerns: ecrutchfield@nssd112.org.
