Week of August 28

Keep reading to learn about some of the highlights from your child's music class this week!

Kindergarteners in the morning class sang a name song and played a singing game.  Students in the afternoon class did not have music this week due to the early release on Friday.

First graders sang a song called "Hi, New Friends" and played seven different unpitched percussion instruments to accompany the song.  They also sang a song called "Hello, Hello" and performed a partner dance.

Second graders played a singing game with a song called "Closet Key."  This game helped them to review dynamic levels including piano (soft), forte (loud), crescendo (gradually getting louder), and decrescendo (gradually getting softer).  Some students went above and beyond and also focused on pianissimo (very soft), mezzo piano (medium soft), mezzo forte (medium loud), and fortissimo (very loud)!

Third graders played a singing game to help them get to know their classmates better.  They also sang a song called "Laugh, Ha, Ha," which they are working on performing in a 4-part canon.

Fourth graders sang a three-section partner song called "Music Keeps Us Singing."  They worked on holding their own parts while singing in three different groups.  Fourth grade recorder orders were due this week, as well.  Students are really looking forward to playing the recorders this year!

Fifth graders were very excited to begin playing ukuleles this week!  They learned about the parts of the instrument, including the four different strings.  They began plucking the strings to play Beethoven's "Ode to Joy."  Recorder orders were due this week.  Students will be playing the recorders soon, as they begin preparing music for their December concert!
