Week of November 6

It was a great week at Wayne Thomas!  Keep reading to find out about some of the highlights from your child's music class.

Kindergarteners did not have music this week because there is no school on Friday.

First graders continued playing the Orff instruments this week.  They read a book called Mortimer, and they performed this story on the instruments.  They also worked on playing simple accompaniments while they sang different songs.

Second graders learned about a young composer and pianist named Emily Bear.  They were very excited to watch a video clip of her playing the piano when she was their age.  She is very talented!

Third graders learned a Maori song from New Zealand this week.  They read about Tititorea, a stick game played by Maori children, and they played a version of this game.  They also read a book called Barn Dance and performed square dance movements.

Fourth graders continued working on their recorder music this week.  They worked through the songs they will play to earn their white, yellow, orange, and green belts.  They also started testing in class in order to earn these belts.  Students are expected to test at least once per week, and they should be practicing for a couple of minutes each night.

Fifth graders continued working on their concert music.  They have showed significant improvement in their songs in the past couple of classes.  They are working on holding their own parts while others are playing something different.
