Week of January 16

Conference sign-up is now available through a link on Mrs. Deely's blog.  If you wish to schedule a conference with me, please sign up for a time.  I would be happy to discuss your child's progress with you.

Kindergarteners sang a song called "The Snowman."  They composed movements to the song and performed for their classmates.

First graders self-assessed a video recording of their folk dance, "Chimes of Dunkirk" this week.  They also focused on the steps for sight-reading new music.  First, they clap the rhythm of the song, then they sing the Solfege pitches, and finally, they add the words.

Second graders learned the rest of their folk dance, "Galopede," which they will be performing at their Informance in February.  They made a video recording of themselves performing the dance, and they will self-assess their performance next week.

Third graders sang and performed movements to a song called "Dance for the Nations" this week.  They were able to put the song together in a three-part canon and perform the dance in three concentric circles.

Fourth graders sang a song called "Down the River" this week.  They really enjoyed performing a folk dance with this song, as well.

Fifth graders added additional layers to their body percussion compositions this week.  Some groups chose to focus on the form of their performances, while others chose to add instruments or alter the words.  They have come up with some very creative performances!

As always, please free to contact me with any questions or concerns: ecrutchfield@nssd112.org.
