Week of March 12

See below to learn about some of the highlights from your child's music classes this week.

Kindergarteners read a book called "Engine, Engine, Number Nine" and sang a song of the same name.  They focused on feeling the difference between the rhythm and the steady beat while playing egg shakers and the gathering drum.

First graders learned two new music symbols this week.  They learned that a half note is one sound that is held for two beats, and a half rest is two beats of silence.  They used these symbols in two new songs this week and played singing games with each song.

Second graders played a singing game called "Red Rover," which helped them work on identifying the solfege pitches in the pentatonic scale on the staff: do, re, mi, sol, and la.  They also began learning a song about shoes!

Third and fourth graders learned singing and movements for their sixth Spring Sing song this week.  They were also very excited to learn their riser positions for the concert.  They will be deciding what parts they would like to have next week!

Fifth graders did a great job with their recorder songs this week.  Students are working well together and coaching one another.
