Week of March 5

Keep reading to learn about some of the highlights from your child's music classes this week.

Kindergarteners came up with creative movements to show the form of a song.  They also did a group movement activity where they listened to a piece of music and showed the high and low sounds through their movements.

First graders focused on Australia this week in music!  They learned about four different marsupials found in Australia: koala bears, wombats, sugar gliders, and kangaroos.  They performed movements that these animals would make in a song called "Jump Like a Kangaroo."  They also learned about an Australian instrument called a didgeridoo and read a story about a didgeridoo.

Second graders worked on improvising this week.  They used a song called "One Small Musician" to improvise 4-beat body percussion phrases that their classmates echoed.

Third and fourth graders learned singing and movements for their fifth Spring Sing song this week.  They were very excited to find out that they are using sign language in this song.  They are doing a great job with their signs so far!

Fifth graders continued their recorder unit.  A couple of students even earned their black belts this week!
